DIY: Homemade Organic Deodorant. No Baking Soda Recipe

I have tried nearly all the "all natural" deodorants on the market and I had pretty much decided that I was just going to stink for the rest of my life.

I thought I would give one last ditch effort and make my own deodorant.

I researched all the recipes on Pinterest and the mommy blogs and put together this recipe.

I wanted all organic.
No baking soda.
No powder.
No brushes.
No creams I had to spread on with my fingers.

Just a stick of deodorant.
That would last the entire day.

This recipe turned out to be a weird color.
I think it's because of the yellow beeswax mixing with the Redmond's Clay.

But I have to say it works GREAT.
It glides on easy.
And you can add your own essential oils to customize the scent.

THE RECIPE:

1/3 Cup Organic Coconut Oil
3 TBs beeswax
2 TBs Shea Butter
1/3 Cup Arrowroot Powder
2 TBS Redmond's Clay
15 drops Essential Oils

I used frankinsense, lavender, and melaleuca.
I use and trust doTerra and sell them.
If you would like to buy them you can get them HERE on my website

DIRECTIONS:

Melt the coconut oil, beeswax, and shea butter on the stove, stirring constantly.
It only takes about a minute.

Take it off the heat.

Add the arrowroot and Redmond's Clay and whisk quickly.

Add about 15 drops of your favorite essential oils for scent and additional therapeutic benefits.

Pour into 2 deodorant containers.
Let them sit over night and they are ready to go by morning!

The whole thing took me about 5 minutes.
Super Easy!

These would work: Deodorant Containers
Or these are a better price if you go in with a few friends and split them: 12 count pack of Deodorant Containers

Beeswax

I got the coconut oil from Vitacost, using a referral link like this to give me $10 off.

This made the price lower than Costco, but Costco changes prices and brands so I need to double check to see if that is still the case.

Everything else I ordered from Amazon.

DIY Lip Balm: Natural and Organic with Essential Oils

Making your own lip balm can be very cost effective, but more importantly, you know what you are putting on and in your body.

Did you know it only takes 26 seconds for the chemicals you place on your skin to begin showing up in your bloodstream?

That's crazy cool.

And the most excellent reason to avoid harmful carcinogens like parabens and benzones.

This recipe is super easy.

DIY LIP BALM RECIPE

Equals Parts:
Organic Beeswax
Shea Butter
Coconut Oil

And then add Essential Oil for scent and added health benefits

When I made it, I used
1/4 cup beeswax
1/4 cup shea butter
1/4 cup coconut oil
      30 drops essential oil

It yielded approx 25 tubes of lip balm
I bought the tubes on Amazon in bulk.

Some recipes call for double boilers or putting a glass measuring cup in a pot of water.
Ain't nobody got time fo dat.
I tried that and after 20 minutes and my beeswax still solid, I put the mixture directly into a small sauce pan and put the dial right in between low and medium. So like a 3 out of 10.

It took 2 minutes and we were ready to pour.

Directions:
Put your equal parts solids into the sauce pan.
Heat on medium low.
Stir constantly.
When it is melted all the way through,  remove from heat. But keep in the saucepan so it stays melted.
Add essential oil.
Begin pouring lip balm immediately.

If you heat it too long, you will get a grainy lip balm. The key is to remove from heat as soon as it is thoroughly melted.

I used plastic pipettes to transfer from the saucepan to the lip balm container.
This worked well as long as I went fast.
If you take too long, it begins to cool and harden and then clogs the pipette.
If you go fast, the new liquid keeps the plastic hot and you don't have the clogging problem.

Fill it all the way to the top until it is nice round dome on the top.
It will sink down as it cools.

Wait 20 minutes before capping and/or using.

Print out cool labels or use stickers to decorate your tubes.

USEFUL INFO.

Organic Grass Fed Lamb Meat

Groupon is offering up a deal on organic grass fed lamb meat from Sleepy Sheep Ranch.
Here is the info from their website:
Having groceries delivered frees up time for other kitchen tasks, such as cleaning out the refrigerator or milking the tiny cows that live under the sink. Save precious time with this Groupon.

$29 for $65 Worth of Organic, Grass-Fed Lamb Meat

Lamb kebabs are $15, lamb loin chops are $50, and leg of lamb is $60. Each morsel of meat comes from the ranch's stock of dorper sheep, which are pasture raised and fed on a combination of grass, hay, and grains. $10 for shipping.

Sleepy Sheep Ranch

Leafy trees throw cooling shade over Sleepy Sheep Ranch’s zigzagging trails as horseback riders and their steeds trot past ponds and trickling creeks. When not escorting riders around the ranch’s maze of riding trails, resident horses and their goat companions frolic in a sprawling pasture, where both experienced and fledgling equestrians can saddle up their own horses or those that live at the ranch. Sleepy Sheep Ranch provides board and care for local equines whose owners don’t have the space and for local mustangs lying low after losing a road race to a golf cart. Serious riders can peruse a for-sale selection of livestock, which includes a handful of stallions and boisterous goats whose iron stomachs allow them to eat not only their own share of food, but the horses’ and compost bins’ as well.
