Organic Strawberries

Strawberries are on the Dirty Dozen List.
They soak up pesticides and fertilizers like crazy.
Not only are you exposing yourself to harmful chemicals that cause cancer and break down your internal organs, think about all the farm workers who are also being exposed to these in much more toxic levels. When you buy organic you are also improving the health and wellbeing of the farm workers.

And the wildlife and farm animals surrounding those farms.
And all the watersheds surrounding those farms.

Organic is right for you. And right for our planet.

Last week I went to the local farmer's market just before closing time. Some of the stands were already putting up signs, slashing prices. The last thing they want to do is pack up their produce and bring it back home. Or worse-- have it spoil and go to waste.

The half flats of organic strawberries were $14.
I asked if I could have 2 for $20. They didn't even bat an eyelash. There was no weird negotiations or muttering under the breath. Smooth. Easy as pie.
And for $20 I got 13 lbs of strawberries-- I can make all the pie I want!!!

That is about $1.50 per pound of farm fresh organic strawberries. The sign said "Picked This Morning".
You can rarely find conventional strawberries for that price!

If you aren't lucky enough to have a farmer's market close by, here is a consolation prize:
