Mother's Day Idea #2: Buy Fair Trade

What does it mean when it says "Fair Trade"?

Fair Trade is a social movement to promote fair pay rates for workers in developing countries, as well as safer working conditions. It means you will pay more-- because the worker is actually getting paid more than pennies a day for their work. And it means you are encouraging human rights in developing countries. Child Labor is prohibited under Fair Trade. Providing health care, and skills training are also encouraged.  Fair Trade also promotes sustainable products, giving special care to the environment and the impact production has on the Earth.

If you are looking for a unique gift take a look around Ten Thousand Villages- a collective of Fair Trade products from around the world. Your consumer dollar is a powerful voice. It is a vote. It is a declaration of what you believe in. Live what you believe.
